Did you grow up seeing a lot of female rappers?
"No, unfortunately not. I was used to always being the outlier, the only girl in a group of boys free-styling. They would always look at each other with raised eyebrows before asking me, “YOU rap?"
What was their role in you becoming a rapper?
"I wanted to be the person they could look up to and get inspiration from because that is something I never had."
What inspired you to be a rapper?
"When I would listen to female rappers, I would be moved by how powerful they were as they rapped."
How does it make you feel to be inspiring other young women?
"There need to be more female rappers for young girls like myself to look up to and feel encouraged. I hope to be that rapper for someone one day."
At what moment did you realize that you wanted to start publishing music?
"One day my friends were freestyling in the cafeteria during lunch. When it was my turn, it came to me naturally. I felt like I had discovered my passion in that moment, so I just continued pursuing them."
When you compose music, what does that process look like?
"I compose music randomly because it normally just comes to me. I hear something in my head, and I do everything to make sure I get that sound."
Where is your favorite place to write?
"My favorite place to write is at the beach when the sun is setting."
Are there any instruments you play?
"I know how to play the piano and the drums."
At what point in your career will you consider to have “made it?”
"I will know I made it when I win my first Grammy, but that will not make me feel like I finished. It will be just the beginning."
What is your biggest goal through music?
"I hope to inspire as many people as possible and later use my success to help people from my community because they have formed me into the person I am."
