Contents Page Examples

Today I will be looking at different contents pages from magazines. I will analyze their styles and conventions for inspiration for my contents page.

I like that the contents page above uses a wide range of colors to number their articles, but still makes it easy to read. In part, this is because of the white background. I also like that the page is not overcrowded. This contents page does not include a main image. I like the font they used for the numbers because it makes the number outlines look better.

The contents page above uses up half of the page for their contents and the other half for their main image.   I prefer the contents page having a main image, but I think the formatting above leaves the text crammed. It has a color scheme of red, black, and white. For my page, I would like it to have more colors or a color that stands out more. I like the font that they used for the subheadings.

I like how the contents page above used the main image as the background. I think this gives it a more natural look. I also noticed the minimalistic writing that allows the image to be the main focus. Though I do not like the image's background color, I like the idea of it being one solid color with white font to stand out.

Genres

Today, I have researched various popular genres of magazines. Before magazines became mainstream, they were only accessible to higher classes because of how expensive they were. During this time, there were not many magazine genres to choose from; most genres were focused on literary and educational topics. When the cost of mass printing decreased, magazines became more affordable for working class as well. It was during this time that a larger variety of magazine genres became more popular.  Literary magazines were one of the main magazines that existed. They focus on the publication of various literary works. This type of magazine is more inclined towards educational purposes.  News  magazines are informational. They discuss important events that are occurring. Many news magazines have conformed to current times, so they are now online.   Science magazines are a popular type of magazine that are still commonly known. These tend to be less formal, but are also edu...

Questionnaire Evaluation

Last week, I recorded my questionnaire results. Today, I will be analyzing them to determine the next steps I will take to create my magazine. The demographics questions I asked showed me that most of the responses came from females between 17 to 18. I received responses from Black, white, Asian, and Hispanic students. I must create my magazine in a way that is appealing and welcoming to all races and ethnicities. The majority of the students voted that they do not feel their racial group is underrepresented in hip-hop magazines, but some students still voted otherwise. Most of the students who voiced this opinion were white Hispanics and one of them was Black.  Most of the voters said that I should use a color scheme with neutral colors for my magazine. This is one of the most helpful aspects of the questionnaire for me because I have been unable to decide on a color scheme.  In addition, the top two categories that my audience voted to see are artists' insights on unre...
